Worked example, the parlay: +264 is a profit of 2.645 per dollar staked. A 30% boost lifts that profit to 2.645 x 1.3 = 3.44, so the boosted decimal payout is 4.44. At an estimated fair 25%, expected return = 0.25 x 4.44 = 1.11 per dollar, an EV of +11.0%. Rule one: the boost multiplies profit, so length feeds it
A profit boost multiplies your profit, not your stake. A -110 single only has 0.909 of profit per dollar for the boost to work on, so 30% of it adds a modest 0.27. The parlay has 2.645 of profit sitting there, so the same 30% adds 0.79. More raw material, more added value. That is the entire reason the parlay’s +11.0% beats the single’s +9.1%: longer combined odds squeeze more out of an identical boost.
This is the one honest thing the parlay button has going for it. Under a boost, length works for you.
Rule two: how you build the length matters more
Rows two and three have identical estimated fair probability, 25% either way, and the alt line still earns +16.0% against the parlay’s +11.0%. Nothing about the outcome changed. The packaging did.
Stacking legs stacks the book’s fee. Each -110 leg carries its own vig, and a parlay multiplies the already-shaved prices together, so two -110 legs cost you about 9% of fair value before the boost touches anything. The boost multiplies whatever profit survives the fee. Pay the fee once and there is more left to multiply. Pay it twice and part of your boost is just reimbursing vig instead of building an edge.
The ranking, and the check that makes it real
So for tickets priced like these, the order is: single long-odds market, then parlay, then short single. One condition does all the work: comparably fair prices. The ranking is a product of the prices, not a law of nature. A long single carrying heavy shade can lose to the parlay, and legs that are individually mispriced in your favor can flip the whole board, which is why the check decides, not the table. The universal version is shorter and duller: whichever eligible ticket has the highest estimated post-boost EV.
A price that is long because the bet is bad beats nothing. If the estimated fair chance of that +280 alt line were 20% instead of 25%, the boosted 4.64 payout returns 0.93 per dollar, a losing bet with a boost badge on it. Long is only good when long is fair, and the offered odds will not tell you that. The market will. When the terms pick for you
One caveat before you go hunting alt lines: boost terms differ. Some boosts take any straight bet. Some require 2+ or 3+ legs, some set minimum odds, and then the terms set the floor no matter what the table says.
