What are alt lines in player props, and what does each step pay?
An alternate line is the same player prop at a number other than the main line, at a price that moves with the number: higher number, longer odds; lower number, shorter odds. bet365 posts them as ladders, like 60+, 70+ and 80+. On our NFL week 3 board, a receiving yards rung up to 10 yards above the main line paid a median +120, 11 to 20 yards above paid +210, and 21 to 30 above paid +350. One catch more than the receptions line paid a median +225.
A player prop comes with a main line, the number the book hangs near even money on both sides. An alternate line is the same prop at any other number, with a price that moves to match: push the number up and the odds get longer, pull it down and they get shorter.
bet365 posts them as a ladder: 50+, 60+, 70+, 80+. Each rung is “this many or more”. Here is what a real one looks like, and what each step paid across a whole NFL week.
One player, one ladder
Travis Kelce’s receiving yards for week 3, as they stood on our board on Friday 25 September. The main lines first. Note that the books do not agree on the number.
| Main line | Books | Best over price |
|---|---|---|
| 50.5 | betPARX, BetRivers, Bally Bet, bet365 | -112 |
| 51.5 | BetOnline, FanDuel, Hard Rock Bet, Fliff | -112 |
| 52.5 | DraftKings, Bovada | -110 |
And bet365’s ladder for the same player, same game:
| Rung | Price | What $100 wins |
|---|---|---|
| 40+ | -250 | $40 |
| 50+ | -135 | $74 |
| 60+ | +135 | $135 |
| 70+ | +210 | $210 |
| 80+ | +320 | $320 |
| 90+ | +500 | $500 |
| 100+ | +750 | $750 |
Ten yards is the difference between laying -135 and getting +135. Another ten gets you +210. That is the whole idea: you are choosing the number, and paying or getting paid for it.
What each step paid, across the board
One player is an example. Here is the median price by distance from the main line, across every bet365 ladder on our week 3 board. “Above” means the rung sits that far above the number the main line needs (a 51.5 main line needs 52).
Receiving yards, 186 players, median 7 rungs each:
| Rung vs main line | Median price |
|---|---|
| 21 to 30 yards below | -550 |
| 11 to 20 yards below | -300 |
| 1 to 10 yards below | -165 |
| 1 to 10 yards above | +120 |
| 11 to 20 yards above | +210 |
| 21 to 30 yards above | +350 |
| 31 to 40 yards above | +550 |
| 41 to 50 yards above | +750 |
Receptions, 185 players, median 5 rungs each:
| Rung vs main line | Median price |
|---|---|
| 2 catches fewer | -1000 |
| 1 catch fewer | -350 |
| 1 catch more | +225 |
| 2 catches more | +500 |
| 3 catches more | +800 |
| 4 catches more | +1000 |
Rushing yards, 77 players: 1 to 10 yards above the main line paid a median +135, 11 to 20 above +250, 21 to 30 above +450. Passing yards, 29 quarterbacks, rungs every 25 yards: the first rung above paid +110, the second +210, the third +400.
The receptions ladder is the steep one. One catch above the line paid a median +225, against +120 for a receiving yards rung up to ten yards above it.
The main number itself moves during the week for most yardage props, covered in do NFL player prop lines move during the week.
Three things the format changes
“60+” is “over 59.5”. A rung is a whole number with “or more” on it, so there is no half point and no push. The 60+ rung wins on exactly 60.
Ladders are over only. Every rung on our board is an over. If you like the under at a number other than the main line, the ladder has nothing for you.
Your main line is somebody else’s alternate. Kelce’s line sat at three different numbers across ten books. Before you take an alt line, check whether another book already has that number as its main line, priced near even money on both sides.
Whether a ladder rung pays less than the same bet on the over/under is its own question, answered with 1,194 matched pairs in are alt lines worse odds than the main line.
Where to see a whole ladder at once
On a player’s page in the Lab, the line arrows under the chart step through every number a book prices, from the lowest rung to the highest, with the price at each. Try it on Travis Kelce’s receiving yards: the chart redraws his game log against each rung as you step.
Alt lines are also where price shopping gets interesting, because only some books ladder a given player. For how much prices differ on a market with no alternates at all, see which sportsbook has the best anytime touchdown odds.
What we counted
Our board for the NFL week 3 games of 27 and 28 September 2026, pulled on Friday 25 September. Every ladder on it is bet365’s: 186 receiving yards ladders, 185 receptions, 77 rushing yards and 29 passing yards. Each rung was placed against that player’s main line on the board, and the medians are across every rung at that distance with at least ten examples.
bet365’s prices on our board are read from its Ontario app, and its prices in a US state can differ. The shape of a ladder, how fast the price climbs per step, is the part to take away, not the exact number on any rung.

Quick answers
What does 60+ mean on a player prop?
Sixty or more. A 60+ receiving yards rung wins if the player gets 60 yards or more, which is the same bet as over 59.5.
How much do alt lines pay?
It depends how far from the main line you go. On our NFL week 3 board, receiving yards rungs up to 10 yards above the main line paid a median +120, 11 to 20 above paid +210, and 21 to 30 above paid +350. For receptions, one catch above the line paid +225 and two catches +500.
Can you bet the under on an alt line?
Not on the ladders on our board. Every rung is an over: 60+, 70+, 80+. The only unders on our board sit at each book's own main line.
Why are the lowest rungs on a ladder priced so short?
Because they are much more likely to win. Travis Kelce's 40+ receiving yards rung was -250 on our week 3 board, with his main line at 51.5: you risk $250 to win $100.
Do all sportsbooks have the same main line?
No. On our week 3 board, Travis Kelce's receiving yards main line was 50.5 at four books, 51.5 at four and 52.5 at two. Every number that is not your book's main line is, to that book, an alternate.
